Blenheim Blades mourn tragic loss of Captain Craig Spence

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the unfortunate passing of Captain Craig Spence, a beloved member of The Blenheim Blades.

The hockey community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Craig Spence, the 22-year-old captain of the Blenheim Blades in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. He tragically passed away in a car accident on Highway 401 in London, Ontario, after a collision between a pickup truck and a transport truck resulted in the pickup truck driver being ejected from the vehicle.

Spence's hockey journey began with the Chatham Maroons, where he played for four seasons. His talent and potential were recognized by the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL, who selected him in the draft. As the captain of the Blades, he showcased his exceptional skills on the ice, accumulating an impressive 74 points in just 36 games played. His remarkable performance earned him the prestigious title of the Stobbs Division defenceman of the year in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Blades General Manager Bob Price speaks out on the loss of Captain Spence

General Manager Bob Price stated Spence "was a well-spoken player that led by example. He was well respected in the dressing room, well respected by the coaches, well respected by everyone that I knew. He will be sadly missed Everyone is devastated, there's nothing but sorrow.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Craig's family, and all those who knew and loved him.»
