The Chicago Blackhawks, and Montreal Canadiens could be trade partners once again if they could find a way to make the money work with defenseman Seth Jones.

Seth Jones could join his former Columbus Blue Jacket teammate David Savard in Montreal if GM Kyle Davidson could make the money work.
It's no secret that Seth Jones wants out of Chicago, the subtext has been loud despite his mother's plea that there was none with his latest comments.
Now, Montreal faithful, and former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque has stepped into the discussion of Seth Jones and his future.
He thinks GM Kent Hughes and the Canadiens would be an ideal spot for Jones to land.
Here's his trade proposal:
« If Chicago keeps one third of its salary, so it just costs you 6 million dollars a year.. Ok?

It costs 6 million, there are 5 years left on his contract.

They trade it in Montreal, they ask you for the first round pick from Calgary, do you?

A right-handed defender, a guy with 40 points a year, with a bad team in addition, a solid defender...

I do it right now, 100 miles an hour. [...]

Imagine him with a better team (than Chicago) like Montreal.

So what I'm talking about when I say that is not something crazy, it's going to be traded, and the Blackhawks know they have to keep some of his salary. »

georges Laraque, BPM Sports
Of course, the Chicago Blackhawks would have to utilize a retainage spot for the $3.5 million the team will have to eat, but in the end, they'd receive the Calgary Flames 1st-round draft pick.
That sounds like a major win to me, especially if GM Kyle Davidson can get Jones on board for that trade.

If you were GM Kyle Davidson of the Chicago Blackhawks would you retain $3.5 million of defenseman Seth Jones's salary for a 1st-round pick in a trade?
