BREAKING: $8 Million Dollar Stanley Cup winner placed on waivers
The NHLPA has confirmed that the Washington Capitals have placed former Stanley Cup champion Evgeny Kuznetsov on waivers.
This came after Kuznetsov announced he would again be a part of the NHL Players Assistance Program.
It is surprising since Kuznetsov was a key player in the 2018 Cup run for the team.
In 43 games played in the NHL, the forward scored 6 goals and contributed 11 assists for 17 points.
Spencer Carberry is in charge now, and Brian McLellan wants to retool the team in another direction. Is Kuznetsov the first of many former core players to be jettisoned?
Kuznetsov's contract is costly with an AAV of $7.8 Million, so he is unlikely to be claimed by another team.
His time with the Washington Capitals in the NHL may be over, however.
