The Detroit Red Wings have had an issue with Patrick Kane, and Alex DeBrincat, though they had found stability in each other last season.

They connected on the 1st line together in Detroit as Kane made a roaring return to the NHL post-surgery.

He'd score 47 points, in 51 games with the Red Wings and would be the team's darling, as the Red Wings arguably weren't that deep.

Well, lo and behold, there's more bad news on the way for the Red Wings, who thought they could exploit DeBrincat and Kane's chemistry.

It was something that led Steve Yzerman to even consider bringing in Patrick Kane while he was hunting for a new home, for an Stanley Cup run.

Well, it appears that connection has been severed, as Head Coach Derek Lalonde of the Red Wings, has demoted part of the dynamic duo to the 2nd power-play unit.

DeBrincat has been demoted to unit 2, and in his place, J.T. Compher has been promoted.

This is bad news for the Wings, who were hopeful that the two would reconnect and continue to contribute to the Wings, adding significant firepower to the lineup.

The 1st power-play unit was ineffective when the Red Wings were dusted by the Penguins in preseason play which showed the weakness in the unit.

The Wings went on their first man advantage less than five minutes into the game, but weren't able to even generate a shot on net, despite being able to field two units with multiple NHL regulars: Dylan Larkin was with Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond and Erik Gustafsson, and Moritz Seider was with Tarasenko, Jonatan Berggren, Nate Danielson and Carter Mazur.

On October 4th Coach Lalonde discussed the power-play not being a finished product.

"We talked about not being sharp and I'd definitely say some of that was our power play, too, not being sharp," coach Derek Lalonde said Tuesday. "We're going to need. So, still working through the power play."

It looks like this is the end of an era, in Detroit as the dynamic duo is at an end for now.
