It's not often that players win a Stanley Cup in their contract year, but when they do; it certainly inflates the potential numbers for the pending extension.
Nathan MacKinnon did just that and has consistently been one of the Avalanche's best players since being drafted first overall by the club in 2013.
In an interview, MacKinnon didn't confirm anything officially, but in his response to the question of what his contract might look like, he gave a straight-up answer, with a smirk to boot.
And his agent's response to TSN's Michael Russo in an interview, all but confirmed what is ahead for the Nova Scotian.
MacKinnon, 25, played 65 games during the 2021-22 NHL regular season, the centre scored 32 goals and 56 assists for 88 points, before helping the Avalanche to a Stanley Cup championship; recording 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points in 20 Stanley Cup playoff games.
Given MacKinnon's prowess and reputation, what do the fans feel 'Mack' will get in his next deal? please share your thoughts in the comments.
