Patrice Bergeron Breaks Down Into Tears Than Reveals Devastating News
With many NHL fans eagerly watching this round of the playoffs to see which team will move on to the second round, most had pegged the Boston Bruins to move through the first round. Having faced the 8th-place team in the Eastern Conference, the Florida Panthers this should have been an easy clean for this team.
At first, it seemed like everything was going according to plan, the Bruins were up three to one in the series heading home to finish them off when the unthinkable happened. The Panthers decided to dig in and try to claw back into the series, which they did and took the series four games to three in overtime.
As the Bruins left the ice, six-time Selke winner and the face of the Bruins Patrice Bergeron was consoling his teammates as the great Captain he is and even teared up at times because of this terrible loss. It's been rumoured that this could be the final game for Bergeron as he winds down his storied career.
He put on a brave face as best he could as the disappointment and shock continued to reign across all their faces. It's revealed after the game that Bergeron was playing with a herniated disc in his back during the entire series.
There will be many changes coming to the Bruins lineup as this core, I feel, has reached the end of its window and a major retool or even rebuild is in the cards for the Bruins as their run has come to an end.
Meanwhile, the Florida Panthers will move on to the second round and will face the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have made the playoffs second round for the first time in 19 years.
