Season-long ban turns into assault charges for Casper Gillberg who assaulted referee
Swedish hockey player Casper Gillberg is facing criminal charges after being suspended for hitting a referee and breaking his arm in November 2023.
His suspension, originally set for 2023 and 2024, has been extended into 2025.
Gillberg, 22, is charged with assault, with the prosecution seeking a $3,000 USD fine.
He denies the charges, claiming he acted in self-defense, saying, "I put my hands up to protect myself."
There's no trial date set yet. Gillberg previously played in North America with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays before returning to Sweden.
