Ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks game tonight against the Minnesota Wild, GM Kyle Davidson has made a lineup change.
He has recalled prospect Landon Slaggert from the Rockford IceHogs, following teammate Frank Nazar into the NHL.
This season, Slaggert has been phenomenal for the IceHogs, he's played 39 games in the AHL. He's tallied 25 points (10 G, 15 A) during that time frame, and will get a second look in the NHL this year.
Last season, we saw Slaggert play 16 games with the Blackhawks, which saw him score 4 points (1 G, 3 A) under Head Coach Luke Richardson.
Now, he can make an impact with Interim Coach Anders Sorensen in the NHL once more.
Sorensen coached Slaggert in the AHL with the IceHogs, so they not only have an established relationship, but he should know Slaggert's strengths and weaknesses.
Slaggert is the third Blackhawks prospect who has been called up, as the team has been managing multiple injuries.
Craig Smith, Laurent Brossoit, and Connor Murphy remain out of the lineup for the Hawks, allowing them to tap into Rockford for extra help.
Slaggert was a 79th overall pick in the third round of the 2020 NHL entry draft and made the jump to professional hockey in 2023-2024.
He spent 16 games with the Blackhawks and has played the majority of the year in the AHL with the IceHogs.
With Taylor Hall's recent subtraction from the lineup, could more spots be opening up in March?
No confirmation on whether he'll take the ice tonight against a divisional rival. But it'd be something we'd love to see.
