The Toledo Mobsters, a AAA semi-pro Hockey Club in Toledo, OH sadly announced the passing of player, Johnny Bonta today.

Johnny Bonta, 29, was a member of the Toledo Mobsters a semi-pro hockey club in Toledo, OH.

The community in Toledo, Ohio will be forever affected by the loss of Bonta. He was a player beloved by the team and community.

Today, the Toledo Mobsters made a heartfelt post on social media commemorating his loss today.

On behalf of the Toledo Mobsters Hockey Club it is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Johnny Bonta #13, #8.
Johnny was not only a valued, talented, player on our team, he was a friend, and family to our team and the organization.
We will miss you Johnny! Your family, friends, teammates are in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers.
RIP on the pond in heaven Johnny.

Bonta played right-wing, for the Mobsters in the APHL, and wore #8 during the 2024-2025 season. He recorded 42 points in 12 games played, before his passing.

Johnny Bonta's parents named him John Bonta and raised him alongside his brother, Jacob.

His life was tragically cut short at the age of 29 on January 23, 2025.

His brother left playing hockey and pursued a career as a proven marketing and sales expert.

While Jacob would pursue another route, Johnny would continue to pursue a career in professional hockey as he'd see his career thrive in multiple semi-pro hockey leagues.

He began his career with the Blue Ridge Bobcats (a member of the FPHL), and would make a name for himself with his performance on the ice.

Bonta played in multiple leagues such as the Cincinnati Street Hockey League (CSHL), and the American Premiere Hockey League (APHL).

Bonta was known by his peers for his qualities, which included his positive attitude, and camaraderie with his teammates.

He leaves behind his family, and teammates on the Toledo Mobsters, and his presence will be missed.
