According to AFP analytics, it would cost the Chicago Blackhawks three seasons of terms at a value of $6.3 million AAV. That number would certainly be very affordable for the Blackhawks as the team continues its rebuilding phase and seeking out veteran help as general manager Kyle Davidson continues to circle Connor Bedard with players who will help him grow.
Many felt that he would have resigned with the Lightning during last year's offseason, but it seems the organization is setting the tone and willing to wait or move from their captain.
Stamkos, has been a model of winning as he has been to the Stanley Cup finals four times in his career and has won the trophy twice. He continues to churn out great numbers even at the age of 34 years old and had been mired by several injuries including breaking his leg a few seasons ago.
He had played 79 games this season, scoring 40 goals with 41 assists 81 points along with 34 penalty minutes. A player of his stature would certainly give the Blackhawks a boost on their offence, power play and the ability to attract more free agents.
It's expected that many teams will be lining up for Stamkos' services, but the Chicago Blackhawks will have $33.8 million in cap space going into the summer with only fourteen players signed. I would expect Davidson to go all in and trying to attract Stamkos as he would be a marquee name to help one of the largest fanbases in the NHL.
