The hockey world is mourning the loss of former Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals enforcer Stephen Peat, who passed away at 44.
The NHL Alumni group confirmed that Peat had been dealing with injuries from a few weeks ago and sadly did not recover, NY Post confirms the injuries were suffered after being struck by a car.
Drafted 32nd overall by the Ducks in 1998, Peat played in the NHL from 2001 to 2006, scoring 10 points (8 goals, 2 assists) in 130 games. Known for his tough playing style, he also racked up 234 penalty minutes in the NHL and 555 in the AHL.
During the 2004-2005 NHL lockout, Peat played for the Danbury Trashers, a team later featured in the Netflix documentary "Untold: Crime and Penalties."
Stephen Peat will be remembered for his toughness on and off the ice.
