NHL great enforcer Stephen Peat dead at 44 after being struck by moving vehicle
Former NHL Player Stephen Peat Passes Away at 44 Following Vehicle Collision
The hockey world is mourning the loss of former Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals enforcer Stephen Peat, who passed away at 44.
The NHL Alumni group confirmed that Peat had been dealing with injuries from a few weeks ago and sadly did not recover, NY Post confirms the injuries were suffered after being struck by a car.
Stephen Peat, the former Washington Capitals enforcer who fought concussion issues and was homeless at times after leaving hockey, has died from injuries sustained late last month when he was struck by a car while crossing a street. He was 44.
Drafted 32nd overall by the Ducks in 1998, Peat played in the NHL from 2001 to 2006, scoring 10 points (8 goals, 2 assists) in 130 games. Known for his tough playing style, he also racked up 234 penalty minutes in the NHL and 555 in the AHL.
Without identifying Peat at the time of the Aug. 30 accident, Langley police said a 44-year-old pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck while crossing a road at about 4:15 a.m.
During the 2004-2005 NHL lockout, Peat played for the Danbury Trashers, a team later featured in the Netflix documentary "Untold: Crime and Penalties."
Stephen Peat will be remembered for his toughness on and off the ice.
