Seattle Kraken Place former $35M Stanley Cup Champion On Waivers
The Seattle Kraken has placed former Stanley Cup champion, and $35 million goalie on waivers today.
The Seattle Kraken has had a surprise in young goalie
Joey Daccord, who has played himself into a starting role.
He's had a record of 17-12-2, with a save percentage of .917. While Grubauer has played well below his pay grade, posting a 5-15-1 with a pitiful save percentage of .866.
Grubauer was signed by the Seattle Kraken in free agency, and given a hefty sum of money at $35.4 million over six years.
The former Stanley Cup champion has played himself out of the top spot in Seattle, and has instead landed on waivers.
He arrived in Colorado while the team was in contention for a Stanley Cup. Ever since he's put on a uniform in Seattle, he's posted a pitiful .890 save percentage in 151 games.
Now, he'll guard the crease in Coachella Valley with the Firebirds, needing to play his way out of the hole he's dug.
That is if he clears waivers.
Grubauer has over 300 games of experience in the NHL, and has won one Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals.
But it seems unlikely that he'll be claimed by an NHL team anytime soon.
The Kraken could end up being on the hook for $5.9 million over the next two seasons if he clears.
What started with good intentions, as the Kraken initially signed him with hopes of landing a Stanley Cup, but now they have cast him into the deep.
Now in the AHL, he must find a way to stay afloat in rough waters.
Should the Chicago Blackhawks claim the former Stanley Cup champion and give him a shot? They've done worse with
Petr Mrazek.
