That player is Connor Murphy whose name has appeared in trade talks recently, as Elliotte Friedman mentioned the defenseman generating interest.
This was after the Blackhawks defeated one of the NHL's tougher Western Conference Teams, the Colorado Avalanche.
While the 5-2 victory was a good victory, and not just a moral victory the team hopes to improve as the season progresses.
Would moving on from one of your veteran defensemen be a good idea?
As of right now, it's just speculation, and moving one of your team's best defenders may seem a bit sudden, considering what kind of assets he could yield. But if you send him to another rebuilding team or a contender it might be worth it.
Murphy's name reached peak speculation when Elliotte Friedman appeared on the "Oilers Now" show after host Bob Stauffer asked, which NHL defenseman could help revitalize the Oiler's sluggish defensive core.
The only con in adding a player like Connor Murphy was that he did eat a lot of minutes on the ice, as a defensive defenseman for the Hawks, he played 46 games for the team last season. He also has a year left on his deal, which is $4.4 Million AAV, tough for teams who are trying to balance their salary cap.
While there's a lot of demand for right-handed defensemen in the NHL the team may not be ready just yet to explore a trade.
But later in the season, when the team knows where they stand competitively, as the trade deadline approaches maybe it would make sense for Kyle Davidson to trade him.
But they need to stabilize the defense as it is right now, and Alec Martinez being out is a major issue for the team. It'd be foolish to move Murphy so soon.
