While Alec Martinez hasn't been placed on injured reserve, could there be cause for concern? Martinez exited practice early today, as his neck would have to be re-evaluated according to Interim Coach Anders Sorensen.
Martinez was struck with a puck during the game against the New York Rangers and would leave the game early.
He'd attempt to practice Sunday, December 8th after the victory against the Rangers, but left early then as well.
There's been no confirmation of a serious injury affecting Martinez, but this would be the second time this season he's been removed from the lineup.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion has only played 15 games this season for the Hawks, scoring 4 points( 1 G, 3 A) and would be brought into the bolster the blue line.
Yet the storyline this season has mirrored last season, the Blackhawks have had to call up Kevin Korchinski to fill the gaps.
The Blackhawks fortunately have plenty of depth in the AHL and can dip into the prospect pipeline to cover injuries.
Kevin Korchinski, and Isaak Phillips are just two of the most recent callups in the past two months.
The Blackhawks blue line remains in flux, as more and more young talent trickle in. While the veterans who thought to be workhorses in the lineup, suffer injuries and don't offer the same kind of help, that players like Alex Vlasic and Wyatt Kaiser have.
Hopefully, Alec Martinez can return to the lineup soon, and be the leader the Hawks need him to be.
