With players such as Jake McCabe, Caleb Jones and Ian Mitchell being out with injuries, there were a few open spots on Chicago's blue line. Through a good showing in the preseason, Alec Regula has earned his spot on the opening night roster.
Regula played 15 games last season on the Blackhawks. He scored one goal against the Calgary Flames on April 28, 2022. He spent the rest of the season with the IceHogs earning 26 points (4G, 22A) in 41 games.
He will likely play with the Blackhawks until McCabe, Jones or Mitchell come back healthy, but he earned his spot on the roster with his speed and offensive ability. If Regula continues to grow into his size and strength, he could stay on Chicago's roster for longer than expected.
