Another NHL Player is Leaving to Play in Russia
It seems as if it is a trend nowadays for players to leave the NHL to play elsewhere for a much smaller percentage of salary, but it makes sense as some want to play closer to home. Alexander Radulov has confirmed he is leaving the NHL to do so, as well as former starting goalie for the Oilers Mikko Koskinen is as well.
In this case it does not make much sense as Canadian Nic Petan is in contract talks with Omsk Avangard of the KHL to join their team.
Petan is currently 27 years old and was once a top prospect that played a huge role in Team Canadas World Junior days back in the day, leading them to a gold medal game. Petan has also spent NHL seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the Vancouver Canucks but could never find a consistent home.
Since Petan has underperformed a ton, which may not be valuable to any NHL team- recently playing half a season for the Vancouver Canucks. The 27 year old is looking to take his talents elsewhere that'll get him a full time roster spot.
