After nearly seven weeks of speculation that Trotz was being considered for various head coaching jobs, he decided to sit this season out. It certainly doesn't mean he won't consider coaching after taking this break.
It's got to be a huge disappointment for the Winnipeg Jets who had interviewed him for the bench boss position and was the leading candidate.
Other openings that Trotz interviewed with the Vegas Golden Knights and Philadelphia Flyers have been filled. The Detroit Red Wings have yet to find a new head coach and Trotz interviewed there as well.
It was reported by sportsnet.ca about a month ago that Trotz was "in no hurry to make his choice" about where he may take a head coaching gig. Now, he has decided not to go forward with that search after leaving numerous teams hanging.
It appeared that the Jets were going to be in a bidding war to acquire Trotz' services. He was a very successful coach, and now he has decided to take some time off and be with his family.
Sometimes the grind of traveling and working long days behind the bench can take it out of you. Trotz has decided to hit the 'pause' button for now, but don't count him out. He may be back in a head coaching job before too long.
It had also been rumored that Trotz is looking for a management position, and if he does come back he may do so in the front office of a team.
Gee, could that possibly be the Jets?
With this decision, Trotz is also passing up an offer from a local Winnipeg brewery for beer for life. Guess, he really does want some time off.
It's not about money either, since the Flyers offered him a multi-million deal to coach in Philadelphia.
