This NHL off-season has been jam packed with emotional news, one of those reports being Zdeno Chara announcing his retirement from hockey as he received no interest, now it leaves 43-year old ''Jumbo Joe'' Thornton in a similar situation. Who was told this week that the Panthers were not interested in having the 25-year NHL veteran back.

Thornton spent eight years in Boston, and fifteen-straight years in San Jose before heading a different way in the 2020-21 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, in hopes for another push at a Stanley Cup. Sadly Jumbo Joe did not get his wish, and headed to the Cup Favourites, the Florida Panthers which ended up getting swept and demolished in the first round of the playoffs.

Now, it appears Thornton, a NHL veteran of twenty-five years could be heading to his best destination yet..

The Calgary Flames, who have a newly built core containing players such as Nazem Kadri, McKenzie Weegar, Jonathan Huberdeau and Elias Lindholm will truly benefit from the addition of Joe Thornton.

Steve Macfarlane of Calgary Hockey Now suggest the Flames should bring in forward Joe Thornton on a PTO, and calls the 43 year old a «perfect addition» for a smooth dressing room transition.

Calgary may be a final destination as Joe's options are very limited as many clubs have not shown interest.
