2013 is a memorable year for Blackhawks fans for one very obvious reason. 2013 was the second time in 4 years that the Blackhawks were able to hoist the Stanley Cup. Along the way, the Blackhawks had some pretty memorable games. One of those games came 9 years ago today when the Blackhawks defeated the Minnesota Wild to advance in the playoffs for the first time since winning the Stanley Cup in 2010.
This was a closeout game for the Blackhawks and they certainly played like they were looking to close things out. Marian Hossa got things started off the assist from Jonathan Toews to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead. That was the lone goal of the first period.
The Blackhawks struck first again in the second period with a goal from Marcus Kruger. A super sweet wrap-around that gave the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead. Chicago would keep their foot on the pedal as just moments later Marian Hossa would net his second goal of the game to make it 3-0. The Wild would try and make things interesting with a goal from Torrey Mitchell to cut the Blackhawks lead down to 2. However, that wouldn't last very long as shortly after the faceoff, Andrew Shaw was able to put home a rebound to make it a 3 goal game again at 4-1. That is how the scoreboard would stay until the end of the 2nd period.
The Blackhawks got one more goal in the third period. A bit of insurance goal from Patrick Sharp for a score of 5-1, which would be the final in this one. This was the final game of this series in which the Blackhawks would win 4-1.
