The Panthers found the back of net in all three periods tonight, while keeping the Blackhawks from doing the same. They opened the scoring with a goal from Aleksander Barkov late in the first period. Barkov thought he had scored very early on in the game, but it was called off due to the puck being kicked in off of his skate. The first period would end with the Panthers holding on to a 1-0 lead.
About midway through the second period, the Panthers doubled their lead with a breakaway goal from Ryan Lomberg. Tough goal to give up as just prior to that, Alex DeBrincat had a golden opportunity in front of the net that Bobrovsky was somehow able to keep out. Later on in the second the Panthers lead would be extended even further by defenseman Gustav Forsling. The Panthers lead would stay at 3-0 to end the second period.
The final goal of the night would be the second on the night for Aleksander Barkov. Barkov and the Panthers were able to take advantage of their 2 man advantage and find the back of the net to make it a score of 4-0. Another frustrating game from the Blackhawks, only in different ways than recent games. Unlike in recent games, the Blackhawks just never seemed to get things clicking as well as they had liked. With Buffalo and Vegas, they started out hot, then let their foot off the gas. Tonight, they could barely even find the pedal. They went 0 for 3 on the power play tonight after a 2 for 2 showing against Buffalo. And while they did have more shots on goal than they did against Buffalo, they had very little high danger chances. Not taking anything away from Bobrovksy because he had a great game, but he definitely did not see the best Blackhawks tonight.
Even with a final score of 4-0 Collin Delia was one of the better Blackhawks on the ice tonight. This game could have easily been 6-0 maybe even 7-0 if not for some good saves from Delia tonight. Safe to say this loss was much better than his loss earlier in the season against Nashville.
The Blackhawks will make the short trip to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning at the Amalie Arena tomorrow night. This will be the first time these two teams have met since the blockbuster Brandon Hagel trade, so it is definitely a must-see game.
