Capitals Goaltender Says Fans Cheers Almost Brought Him to Tears..
Ilya Samsonov Has been on fire as of late being the backbone to the Washington Capitals starting goalie Vitek Vanecek. Vanecek was pulled on may 5 against the Florida Panthers and Samsonov came into save the day, stopping all 17 shots posting up a shutout during the third period that he was in.
May 7, game 3 in Washington Samsonov continued to impress finishing the game with a .967 Save% and 29 saves on 30 shots received-the fans were in love.
It seemed as if the entire arena was chanting «Saaaammyyyy» the netminders nickname to motivate him and to let him know he's standing tall, it was a huge game-the Capitals took a 2 games to 1 series lead again the Florida Panthers.
Ilya Samsonov said he was close to crying when he heard the chants of "Sammy! Sammy!" at Capital One Arena today. He said was nervous in the beginning of the
game but settled in, was a "fun".
