With the talent dump this summer combined with uncertainty regarding the futures of long time stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, the Blackhawks may look to add an inexpensive veteran forward to mentor some of their younger players. Well look no further than Jumbo Joe.

Though his point production has taken an absolute nose dive in recent seasons, there is no question that if Joe Thornton still possesses the drive to play, that he could help a group of youngsters grow on the ice. There are no cup contenders who will likely be interested in signing him, and with his aforementioned lack of production, his price would be cheap.

Having centered Michael Bunting in Toronto for a brief stint which did appear to help elevate his game, and having a reputation as a guy who is respected by most if not all in a locker room, should give Hawks management reason enough to make an inquiry. Don't expect ole Jumbo to be lighting up a scoreboard anymore, but his experience and knowledge could be invaluable to a group who may very well end up without much of a veteran presence.
