Elon Musk recently took over Twitter for good. First he laid off almost 4,000 people without warning, and now he is charging $8/month for people to be verified on twitter.
With the $8/month verification fee, it seems as though anyone can be verified now, and yes, that means parody accounts can be verified.
Take a look at this fake Connor McDavid account that is verified:
The account had just 68 followers, but still managed to be verified.
