Last season was cleanup mode for the Blackhawks, they analyzed who is going to be around for this rebuild and who'll be shipped away, many tough moves had to me made, including letting go of Alex DeBrincat, because the Blackhawks did not want to have another long-term contract.
A few others to list were let go, Dylan Strome, Erik Gustafsson, Henrik Borgstrom, Dominik Kubalik just to name a few.
Three of those Blackhawks were instantly picked up by one other organization after they were placed on waivers, the Washington Capitals, who signed Strome, Borgstrom and Gustafsson to contracts, and they've all been proving nothing but success so far this year in their new colours.
Gustafsson also recently had a historic game, completing a hat trick to be the twelfth defensemen in NHL history to ever score 3 goals in a game!
Congrats Erik!
