Chicago Wolves head coach Bob Nardella has been handed a 10-game suspension by the American Hockey League (AHL) for using anti-gay language towards a referee during a recent game.

The league made the announcement on Tuesday, emphasizing its commitment to a safe and inclusive culture, free from abuse and harassment.

In a statement, the AHL stated that Nardella would be allowed to participate in team practices on non-game days during the suspension. His return to the Wolves' bench is slated for January 6th.

The incident occurred in Saturday's game between the Wolves and the Texas Stars, a match that Texas went on to win 8-5. Notably, Nardella is a former member of the Chicago Blackhawks organization, having played for more than two seasons with the Rockford Ice Hogs, the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate.

The AHL's decision to suspend Nardella underscores its commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment in the sport. The league's clear message is that such behavior will not be tolerated.
