Even though in the Leafs end of season press conference, no changes were suggested, things could still go down once evaluations are made.
Let's face it, the Leafs have been eliminated in the first round for six consecutive seasons, and getting into a comfort zone of bowing out in the first round is well... unacceptable.
Fans are sick of it. Their team is being mocked. They have such a talented roster, how can they constantly be eliminated so soon... year after year?
The management of the Leafs may deny they need to make some changes, and it could all be a smoke screen so they don't divulge their intentions.
The yearly rumors that William Nylander needs to be traded have started already. Bukala proposed a trade with the Arizona Coyotes which he feels will move the Leafs forward. Leaf fans may not agree. As it the case with any trade, you must give up something to get something.
The trade breakdown is:
TORONTO TRADES
William Nylander ($6.962 million AAV)
Timothy Liljegren (RFA/$863,333)
2024 first-round pick
ARIZONA TRADES
Jakob Chychrun ($4.6 million AAV)
Lawson Crouse (RFA/$1.533 million)
2024 third-round pick
Now, it has also been rumored that the Coyotes are interested in trading Chychrun, but haven't received the level of an offer that GM Bill Armstrong feels is good enough.
Does receiving an accomplished forward like Nylander fit that bill? He has averaged 0.78 points per game and had 34 goals, 46 assists in 81 games this season. The Yotes need that instant offense to help with their rebuild.
Losing Crouse may not be a favorite idea for Arizona fans. He's big at 6'-4", 220 pounds. Toronto needs that on their front line. Even Elliotte Friedman stated so in this 32 Thoughts.
While this is merely a trade proposal, one must admit it contains plenty of merit for both teams. The Leafs need to turn the corner in the playoffs, and the Coyotes need to continue to build for the future. Adding in Nylander's speed and scoring prowess blends well with Arizona's direction.
Now, we just wait to see if this actually happens. It would be a monumental blockbuster trade!
