This has caused many of Leafs Nation hoping for change. However, Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas has stated:
"There will be some changes made but they won't make changes just for the sake of making them. -Kyle Dubas
But many wonder what moves the Leafs will do the core of Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, and Reilly take up most of the cap so one or two of those guys need to go to make a difference in their roster.
Oddly enough the one that makes the most sense is Captain John Tavares. All though Tavares has been a solid Captain for the Leafs however most would agree Tavares hasn't lived up to that monster contract he received when he jumped ship as a UFA from the New York Islanders to the Leafs.
When Tavares joined Toronto because he wanted to raise his family here and play for his childhood team and where he grew up but after four seasons with the Leafs Tavares hasn't been worth the $11 Million dollars he's making per season.
The unfortunate part for the Leafs GM Kyle Dubas he's going to have to one get Tavares who's 31 waive his full No Move Clause and two retain salary. But if Dubas could convince Tavares to waive it and another team like the Rangers or another team Tavares would go to this would be a huge move for the Leafs to get another top defenceman or cap to land a top Goaltender especially with the likelihood that Jack Campbell plays elsewhere too next season.
