We are still getting over the shock of last week's blockbuster trade between the Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers, that sent Tkachuk to the sunshine state for Johnathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, prospect Cole Schwindt, and a first round draft pick.
Tkachuk didn't take to long to get get going with his new team addressing the rivalry now with between the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning. Tkachuk compared it to the battle of Alberta one saying:
"I hate the Edmonton Oilers but hate the Tampa Bay Lightning even more." - Matthew Tkachuk
Tkachuk would also compliment one of his new teammates Finnish Center Aleksander Barkov. Because of Florida doesn't get no where near the media coverage as other teams Barkov has to be one of the most underrated players in the NHL.
Tkachuk is projected to be linemates with Barkov this season which is going to be highly anticipated by fans and Tkachuk. Barkov would of had a 100 point season if not for injuries last putting up 88 points in just 67 games.
It will be pretty interesting to see how they play together this season but Tkachuk is hyped and would compliment Barkov saying:
"We have a top 3 player in the NHL right now, and that's a fact."
- Matthew Tkachuk
