Jon Cooper only took one question post-game, and was clearly not happy about the Avalanche's OT winning goal. pic.twitter.com/g6DAwp475i Sportsnet (@Sportsnet) June 23, 2022
The controversy was sparked by Tampa Bay Coach Cooper's post game press conference where his no comment sent the internet into a blaze of fury trying to figure out what he was alluding to.
John Cooper: They had too many people on the ice! Booooo! No goal! Boooo!
Me: Yes, you did pic.twitter.com/x2ETArJvuk anthony (@happyjetsfan_) June 23, 2022
While certain still images make it appear as if Colorado had too many man, the same images show the Tamps Bay had two extra men on the ice as well just as close to their bench as the Avalanche's Nathan Mackinnon was.
There is also the case of an alleged official score sheet generated by the NHL that many people are claiming to be the "smoking gun" piece of evidence in this controversy. But NHL analyst Mike Johnson of TSN and NHL Network was quick to debunk this argument last night.
Not sure how game summary is generated but this isn't the smoking gun that is being suggested because 6, Eric Johnson, was nowhere near the play. It was 29 by the bench so 6 on the summary was some kind of error, unrelated to the too many men. https://t.co/E6JmbuiAKR Mike Johnson (@mike_p_johnson) June 23, 2022
So if this was an official scoresheet from the NHL then it appears it was made in error as the player it claims to indict was not even the player in question as pointed out by Johnson. Lets also not forget that Tampa Bay has been on the other end of calls like this before in recent playoff history...
