«One of the most controversial callsof the year helps eliminate a team, and the NHL's official explanation is 42 words long, over half of which is just a cut-and-paste of the rule. Super helpful stuff.»
After being under fire the NHL was due to respond, their response? Seemed like the commissioner Gary Bettman himself typed it from how bad it was.
Type of Review: Distinct Kicking Motion
Result: Call on the ice is overturned - No goal Calgary
Explanation: Video review determined Calgary's Blake Coleman kicked the puck into the Edmonton net.
According to Rule 49.2, "A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking
motion to propel the puck into the net with his skate/foot."
That is the simple explanation they released from the most controversial call of the entire season.
