It has not been confirmed that Sheahan requested the termination of his contract, according to Hockey Feed, but there is speculation that this is it for him.
He was on the waiver wire for awhile, but nobody picked him up, and it seems unlikely that the Sabres would just cut him at this point in the season with how the team is playing so far.
The veteran has played 12 seasons in his career amassing 194 points in 637 games, most of which was spent with the Red Wings at the beginning of his career.
His production hasn't been terrible, but definitely not up to par with what teams are hoping for from a veteran. Sheahan was even sent down to the AHL at one point, which sparked comments from his wife:
Now that his time with his eighth team in three years is over, you could probably guess that his wife is not happy about this, especially considering he may be signed by another team in the near future.
I wouldn't blame Sheahan if he asked to be cut rather than to be sent down. He is probably done with the constant moving and signing with a new team every few months.
