The Montreal Canadiens have had to make a complete overhaul after making it to the Stanley Cup final in 2021, last season the Canadiens season was a absolute disaster finishing 32nd overall.
This caused Canadiens Owner Geoff Molson to clean the house, firing mostly everyone and bringing in Jeff Gorton to be the new Executive Vice President Hockey Operations. Who would hire Kent Hughes as the new General Manager to replace former General Manager Marc Bergevin and much of his staff.
Since taking over the reigns of the franchise Gorton and Hughes have made drastic changes to the team including executing a number of trades to help the Canadiens start the rebuild. One thing the Canadiens need to do is name another captain as the Canadiens have been without a captain this past season.
It's believed the Canadiens have three options who they feel could fill that role Brendan Gallagher, Nick Suzuki, Joel Edmundson and all three are very good candidates.
Nick Suzuki, who was recently asked about his thoughts on becoming the next captain of the Montreal Canadiens.
Suzuki was speaking with former NHLer Chris "Knuckles" Nilan when Nilan hit him with a pretty tough question about whether or not he felt he was ready to take on such a big responsibility in such a passionate hockey market.
"Yeah," said Suzuki onthe Raw Knuckles podcast. "I think we have a ton of guys that could wear the Cand be great captains and I have a ton of respect for all my teammates and the guys that have been here like Gally, who would be an amazing captain if he was given the C. But if it was me, I think I would definitely be ready for it. I think I've learned a ton over my 3 years here already. I've had guys to learn off of like Gally, and Webby, Pricey and all the guys I mentioned before. I've seen a great captain like Webby and how he's handled himself and I think I could do a great job in that role."
Suzuki acknowledged that the role of captain is something taken extremely seriously in Montreal where hockey is a religion. I believe Suzuki would be perfect as the new captain he's been signed long term and is the Canadiens plans as the number one center and he's proven he's ready to take the prestigious role.
