The Florida Panthers have extended Spencer Knight's contract through three years at $4.5 million per season. Knight is now currently paid more than Marc-Andre Fleury, Ilya Sorokin and many other younger goaltenders in the league. With this new contract extension, the Panthers are now paying $10,925,000 for their two goalies this season; the next three seasons will be $14.5 million.

Last season, Knight played in 36 games with 30 starts; he also recorded two shutouts with a .909 save percentage. With an overall 2.74 GAA, Knight has the potential to be a strong half in Florida's goalie tandem.

Although the Panthers are setting up their goaltending future with Knight's and Sergei Bobrovsky's contracts, it's still a risky move for Florida. The more games Knight plays between the pipes at the FLA Live Arena, the better fans and critics will be able to analyze this move.
