After a devastating 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, Marc-Andre Fleury and the Minnesota Wild's race to the cup came to an end; the series ended 4-2. Here's what this means for the Chicago Blackhawks:
During the 2022 Trade Deadline, the Blackhawks traded away Fleury for a 2022 Conditional 1st Round Pick, which General Manager Kyle Davidson commented on by saying, «This trade immediately puts us in a better position at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, giving us a pick that will land early in the draft.» If the Wild were to make it to the Western Conference Final and Fleury had a winning record of a minimum of four games, the Blackhawks would have received Minnesota's first-round pick.
Unfortunately, since the Wild were a first-round exit, Chicago misses out on the conditionals and they will now receive a second-round pick instead.
Fleury finishes out the 2021-2022 season with 56 games played across Chicago and Minnesota and 5 playoff games played. During the Wild's first round stint, Fleury finished with a 3.04 GAA and a SA% of .906.
