May 7, 2010:
Captain Jonathan Toews had a 5 point game and the first playoff hat trick of his career to help his team garner a 7-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks, padding their lead in the Western Conference Semifinals 3-1. Toews scored his 3 Power Play Goals as the Canucks became increasingly unraveled, and he had 2 assists.
The other lamplighters of the night were Brent Seabrook (who scored 18 seconds into the game), Patrick Sharp, Tomas Kopecky, and Deave Bolland (Empty Net, with 37 seconds left).
And, as we all know, Chicago ended up winning the series, 4-2, and ultimately becoming the Stanley Cup Champs for the 4th time in franchise history, and the first time this millennium. The last time they'd won was in 1961.
May 7, 2015:
The Chicago Blackhawks finished their sweep against the Minnesota Wild with a score of 4-3. It was a multi-point game for multiple players, with Kaner getting a goal and an assist, Toews with 2 assists, and Bryan Bickell had 2 assists. The 3 other goals were courtesy of Hossa, Seabrook, and Shaw. Hossa is credited with the GWG, which also happened to be a short-handed EN. With that goal, the Hawks were up 4-1, but the Wild would come back to score 2 in under a minute out of pure desperation. However, their last goal was scored with 1:27 left in the game, and the Hawks fought them off to advance, again, eventually to the Final, and become the Champs for the 3rd time in 5 years.
In the entire series, Corey Crawford faced 131 shots, and made 124 saves, allowing only 7 goals in 4 games, giving him a SV% of .947. The first and last games' scores were the same, while Game 2 saw the Wild only get 1 goal, and Game 3 ended in a 1-0, 30 save shut out - including this incredibly on the line pad save:
Here's to future May 7th games for the Blackhawks, and hope that this day continues to bring them luck.
