«This was a tough one because he had a great year last year and played very well for us,» enthused Guerin. «But we need some more cap space. We felt we had maybe one too many defensemen, and we don't want to put guys in positions where they're not playing or not playing enough.» That was the statement Wild GM Bill Guerin provided during a press conference in early September.
Guerin has been seemingly rebuilding the Wild from scratch since the departure of former GM Chuck Fletcher. One of the bigger issues that Guerin has faced since being appointed GM of the Wild, has been finding cap space.
Unfortunately Kulikov became victim to the business of hockey, the money was tied-up elsewhere and Guerin felt confident in his current blueliner's, along with the organizations defence prospect poll.
Guerin has done well since taking over as Wild GM, and the difficult decisions weren't a surprise, so, yes the departure of Kulikov may cause disappointment in Minneapolis, but the former NHL player and NHLam was hockey hall of famer has hit all the right notes.
Dumba, Fleury, Kaprisov and Rossi will certainly be ready. Are you?
