Former Blackhawks defenseman, Adam Boqvist who was sent to Columbus in the Seth Jones trade in 2021, is now a free agent.

New GM Don Waddell is cleaning house, as the Blue Jackets have been making tough decisions, and Boqvist was a part of them.

if Boqvist clears waivers today, he will be bought out by his old team and they will get a cap credit, and a spot for defenseman and 1st round pick, David Jiricek.

Buyout waivers today: Adam Boqvist (Columbus), Jack Campbell (Edmonton), Nate Schmidt (Winnipeg)

With the Blue Jackets defensive group, having significant depth Boqvist was the odd-man out.

Boqvist only played 35 games for the Blue Jackets this season, his career-high game total in all 5 five seasons of his NHL career is 52 games.

Boqvist could prove to be a good offensive defenseman for the club who decides to claim him.

If Boqvist goes unclaimed, the cost for the Jackets will be 1/3 of the cap, instead of 2/3 due to the young defenseman only being age 23.
