Anders Sorensen Responds To Mark Messier's Call Out To Connor Bedard

This weekend, when the Chicago Blackhawks lost to the Florida Panthers there was fallout.

Mark Messier, and PK Subban wouldn't hold back as they thought Anders Sorensen made a mistake for giving Bedard power-play time after giving up a goal to Sam Reinhart.

Messier felt that Bedard didn't earn his ice time, and should've been benched instead.

However, Sorensen responded in kind today. Noting that Bedard is still growing as a player in the NHL.

He felt that the Blackhawks were treating him accordingly. Instead of being reactive with their discipline, they would work with him as he continues to do everything they ask of him.

Sorensen's reply sounds like that of a coach who has been successful at developing players in the AHL.

Notably, since Sorensen's ascension to the NHL, he's focused on figuring out ways to drive offense.

One approach has been to focus on Bedard's production, whether by getting him the puck to facilitate plays or creating chances on the ice for him to score.

And it has worked quite well compared to Luke Richardson's style, which has fizzled out after one season.

While Messier reminds us of John Tortorella, with his latest comments, we have to remember that they're products of their time.

Discipline is a major hurdle for many players in the NHL, but you have to think Bedard likely doesn't lack it, considering he was the 1st overall pick in 2023.

Connor Bedard has scored 45 points in 52 games this season in the NHL.
