Mikko Rantanen To The Chicago Blackhawks Is Picking Up Steam
The Chicago Blackhawks could look to improve their top-six group, as GM Kyle Davidson was seen at a Colorado Avalanche game, could Mikko Rantanen be the target?
The Chicago Blackhawks must improve their top six and find someone who can tap into Connor Bedard's potential.
While Frank Nazar and Tyler Bertuzzi have worked well with Bedard this season, they're not legitimate NHL superstars, like Mikko Rantanen.
Rantanen is a pending UFA in July and hasn't yet signed a new extension with GM Chris McFarland, and the Avalanche.
It doesn't seem like the two sides are particularly close either. Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli reported in a recent segment on Amazon Prime (Twitter link) that the two sides are believed to effectively be at a stalemate in their discussions.
This could leave Kyle Davidson an opening to steal the top-six forward from the Avalanche.
The Avalanche forward has scored 100+ each of the last two seasons and has scored 64 points ( 25 G, 39 A) in 49 games this year.
Would the Blackhawks be a suitable fit for Rantanen?
Considering the transition in coaching strategy under Anders Sorensen in charge, it could be a great place for Rantanen, an elite sniper for the Avalanche.
He's experienced working with top talent and is one of the best forwards in the league. Nathan Mackinnon has been Rantanen's regular linemate in Colorado.
If Davidson could trade for Rantanen, the Blackhawks could take a huge leap forward in 2025-2026.
He currently makes $9.25 million AAV and has yet to settle on a contract with the Avalanche.
Kyle Davidson could turn the Blackhawks into a top team, with one big trade like this.
