Team Canada Announces Crosby's Replacement Amongst Injury Concerns For 4 Nations Face-Off
Should Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby miss the Four Nations Face-Off tournament, Team Canada has found his replacement.
According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger, the management of Team Canada has found a suitable replacement for Crosby, should he not be available for the best-on-best tournament.
Team Canada has reached out to Winnipeg Jets' Center
Mark Scheifele as his replacement.
He'll not only serve as Crosby's replacement if other players exit as a result of an injury.
Scheifele's been a part of the upstart Winnipeg Jets team who have come from behind to solidify themselves as one of the best NHL teams this season.
It'd make sense they'd reach out to him after all, he wasn't named to Team Canada's roster a rightful snub in any case.
In 56 games with the Jets, he's scored 63 points (31 G, 32 A) and is on pace for 92 points this year. If he does, that'd be a career-best for him.
While there's been no confirmation that Scheifele will get the chance to participate in the Four Nations Face-Off, he'll have to remain on call.
As it stands now, Team Canada has remained optimistic that Captain Sidney Crosby will be available for the competition.
on February 7th, it was reported by Head Coach Mike Sullivan that he was taking part in the Penguins' morning skate.
So, it seems at this point we're going to have to be patient to see whether or not Scheifele will get a chance to show his at the Four Nations Face-Off.
Or he'll simply be a call-up for the best-on-best tournament, something that hasn't happened for NHL players since the World Cup of Hockey in 2016.
