Three reasons why Chicago sports fans must continue watching the Blackhawks
Three Reasons Why You Should Keep Watching the Blackhawks
The Blackhawks were expected to improve this season, but they're once again near the bottom of the standings.
While they'll surpass last year's 52-point total, it won't be by much. The season hasn't gone as planned, but there are still reasons to tune in for the final 27 games.
Bedard remains the main reason to watch. Despite a slow start and a mid-season injury, he's still Chicago's most dynamic player. He's on pace to surpass his rookie totals and could finish with around 24 goals and 73 points.
His game has improved since Anders Sorensen took over in December, posting 34 points in his last 34 games.
Defensively, he's making strides, competing harder, and improving his faceoffs. He's not a shutdown player, but if he becomes average defensively, he'll be even more dangerous.
2. The Trade Deadline Will Shake Things Up
The lineup could look very different after the March 7 trade deadline. Veterans like
Ryan Donato, Pat Maroon,
Alec Martinez, and
Craig Smith could be moved, opening spots for young players.
Soderblom has taken a huge step forward, improving from a .879 SV% last year to .901 this season. He looks more confident and could be part of Chicago's long-term plans. Meanwhile,
Petr Mrazek has been inconsistent and could be traded.
The Blackhawks aren't winning much, but their young core is developing.
That alone makes these final games worth watching, despite the losing aspect, fans must embrace it.
