Every year there are the clearcut studs, the players whose development post draft exceeds any supposed trajectory and the players who end up being classified as draft day steals.
With the World Junior Hockey Championships currently being played, NHL gm's have a chance to assess what they've got in their prospect pools. While the tournament is not the be all and end all of a player's development, NHL clubs have a chance to view their drafted prospects in a best-on-best international junior hockey tournament. With that said, let's have a look at the top-10 potential breakout rookies heading into the 2022-23 NHL regular season:
1. Thomas Bordeleau
2. Brendan Brisson
3. Alexander Holtz
4. Filip Zadina?
5. Mason McTavish
6. Luke Hughes
7. Simon Edvinsson
8. Brett Berard
9. Kaiden Guhle
10. Jake Sanderson
11. Juraj Slafkovsky
12. Jake Neighbours
13. Justin Barron
14. Shane Wright
15. Dylan Holloway
The list is subjective, and in no way aimed to create tension or argument. Just a bunch of hockey fans discussing what the future of the NHL will look like once prospects secure their spots. Everybody has their own configuration of a top-15 list, and that's what makes hockey so great.
