When it was announced that GM Stan Bowman would be stepping down in light of the Block and Jenner report, the majority of Blackhawks fans thought "It is about time". Between the off ice stuff combined with the numerous bad decisions when it comes to on ice, Stan Bowman had more than warmed his welcome in Chicago.
When it comes to the bad on ice decisions, there was one thing in particular that Stan Bowman was consistently criticized for. And that was rushing prospects to the NHL level. You don't have to look to far down the line-up to see the latest example, that being Kirby Dach. Although it's to late to do anything about it now other than try and make Kirby Dach the best NHL player he can be. But we all know that Kirby Dach was far from ready for the NHL level, but Bowman brought him up anyway. The man simply was impatient, and in all the bad ways.
Kyle Davidson has expressed a desire to do the opposite. When speaking with the media, he said quote "It's not a race to the NHL for any of our prospects. It's about getting to the point that when they get to the NHL, we can't send them back".
Certainly refreshing words to hear from the Blackhawks general manager. He said that he was looking more at a rebuild, and so far he seems to be staying true to his word. His next big test will be the draft. Say what you want about Bowman, but the man had a good eye for talent when it came to the NHL draft. Hopefully Kyle Davidson can have some similar success on that front.
