Alex DeBrincat opens up On His Untimely Exit From The Ottawa Senators
With eight points in four games, Alex DeBrincat has hit the ground running in Detroit. That shouldn't surprise you considering DeBrincat is a past 40-goal scorer and he already has 5 on the season.
In spite of his recent success, there are still questions about his untimely departure from Ottawa.
Since it was revealed that the Senators wouldn't be able to re-sign DeBrincat during the 2022-2023 off-season, DeBrincat has finally opened up about the subject.
"Through the trade process, a lot of things that were put out there were not necessarily what was actually going on behind closed doors."
"No, I never asked for a trade. I said I wasn't going to sign long-term. And they took that as writing on the wall."
According to DeBrincat, the entire trade was about moving back to be with family, and he was happy in Ottawa during his short stint.
His family can now attend his games in Michigan, and I'm sure that he'll enjoy having them around during games since he may have been homesick in Ottawa.
"Archie is growing up with his grandparents around. That's a luxury that most NHL players don't get. I do think that's something that's overlooked. We have lives outside of hockey. It's been so good for me and my wife."
However, DeBrincat insists that he has no ill will or hatred for Ottawa and had a great time there.
"Hating Ottawa is not going to happen for me or most players. It's such a great city. It just ended up not being the best fit for me and my family. To get the chance to come back to Detroit was something we couldn't pass up."
He regularly communicates with multiple Sens players and is confident that there are no hard feelings between the two teams.
Meanwhile, the Senators and Red Wings will face off on Saturday for the first time since DeBrincat was traded. As the team heads to Ottawa, he has come to accept that the Senators fans may boo him, and that's okay.
