Matt Larkin of dailyfaceoff.com has an article where he discusses the possibility of the Bruins going after Connor Bedard. Join the crowd, Bruins! EVERY team wants to add the amazing Bedard to their roster.

Bedard's accomplishments are off the chart, making him the consensus first overall pick next year.

The exciting young forward who turns 17 on July 17th, threw in 51 goals, 49 assists for 100 points in just 62 games in the WHL.

See, the Bruins are a hot mess right now. They know that four of their key players had severe injuries, some requiring surgery. Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy, Mike Reilly, and Matthew Grzelcyk will all miss significant time and the Bruins will be without any of them to start the new season.

That's three defensemen, and a star forward not playing. Will that factor into the team's performance? You bet it will. The end result will show not nearly as a successful regular season as was 2021-22 when they tallied 107 points and a wildcard berth.

The injured players can be placed on LTIR, but what happens when they return? Any replacement players signed or brought up from Providence will need to be moved somehow.

Many are very upset that general manager Don Sweeney let head coach Bruce Cassidy go and are calling for him to leave. While that may not happen, the team needs four injured players replaced and a new head coach.

They also have issues concerning re-signing star forward David Pastrnak. He has made a statement that he may not want to re-sign if the team is going to rebuild... plus he may not sign if Sweeney is still the GM.

See what I mean? If any team needs some psychoanalysis it's the hapless Bruins.

There's a few methods the Boston club can "tank" to be in position to draft Bedard.

1) They could "allow" their injured players to take their time recovering, thus prolonging their chances of winning games. That could be understood as they are protecting their stars.

2) They can trade Jake DeBrusk for prospects even though he seems to have reconsidered, but not removed his trade request.

3) They can resist the urge to use their LTIR to sign free agents while their injured players recuperate. The point of a rebuild is to NOT sign veterans and tie up that cap space to save it for signing Pastrnak and some prospects.

The objective here is for the rebuild to turn into a retool. If it takes longer than a year to complete there may be rioting in the streets of Boston.
