There have been some big names thrown out there for hire, one being former Islanders coach Barry Trotz. Trotz has also coached for the Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals in the past and has a 914-670-168 career record. Hiring him as a head coach means there would be someone experienced behind the bench; that could be what the Hawks need for the rebuild.
After denying an offer from the Philadelphia Flyers for seven million dollars, Trotz bought a home in Nashville. He told the Flyers after declining that he wanted to go in another direction, but it's unlikely Chicago is that direction.
Another person who the Flyers showed interest in is John Tortorella, who was just recently offered the head coach position there too. He has a 673-541-132 record, and has coached for the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets. Although it hasn't been confirmed yet, fans are speculating that's where he'll end up.
Bruce Cassidy (292-155-53) was the Boston Bruins head coach for six seasons, and they made the playoffs every time. After he was fired, Cassidy was picked up by the Vegas Golden Knights almost immediately after they fired Peter DeBoer (513-379-123); where does that leave him?
DeBoer was the head coach of the Knights for three seasons but was fired in May, presumably for missing the playoffs for the first time in their history. There have been rumors of the Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings wanting him, but Chicago is still radio silent.
Davidson is seemingly isn't interested in any of the big names, and fans are starting to sweat. He's said that it's unlikely to be Derek King, but if there's no one else, he might be an option. Only time will tell, but are too many chances slipping away?
