This time, we will be taking a look at Jonathan Toews season. The captain certainly had himself somewhat of an up and down year. But unfortunately, it tended to be on the downside of things for the majority of the year. It took him 6 games to get a point on the season, getting two assists in a game against the Red Wings. As far as goal scoring is concerned, it took him a whooping 26 games to find the back of the net for the first time of the year. A power play goal on the road against Montreal. Along with his goal scoring woes, he tied his career low in assists at 25. As well as new career lows in points (37) and plus/minus (-14).
The dip in play is something Blackhawks had to be expecting from Jonathan Toews. Not that Toews is a bad hockey player now by any stretch, but it was hard to expect him to come back and be the same player he once was. If you aren't familiar with the illness he was diagnosed with (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome), do a little bit of research. The fact that he was back on the ice for as many games as he was (71) is impressive in it's own right.
Season Grade: C-
Taking into account what he had just gone through coming into the season, Toews certainly could have given less and no one would have batted an eye. And even though his numbers were almost all career lows, the effort was never in question on the ice. Now the effort off the ice? Let's just stay that is an article for another day.
