Blackhawks Get Amazing News Before Opening Game Tonight - Defensemen Jake McCabe is back from his injury
After undergoing cervical spine surgery this summer, Jake McCabe played in a non-contact jersey through the Blackhawks training camp. He was expected to stay out of the action until November, but McCabe has been medically cleared and is making his season debut on Friday, Oct. 21 against the Detroit Red Wings.
McCabe earned 22 points (4G, 18A) in 75 games played last season. He's a fast skater who brings a veteran presence with him onto the ice, but McCabe isn't as physical as he used to be. If he's able to stay healthy, he could be a strong part of the rebuild during the coming seasons.
It's likely that McCabe will stay in the lineup through the entire season unless he gets injured. With two seasons after 2022-2023 remaining on his contract, we might see his physicality increase the more time he spends in Chicago.
