Throughout his 10 year NHL career, Andrew Shaw earned a reputation that could be described with words like "agitator" and "instigator". Or a nickname like "Mutt". Whatever you choose to call it, he probably wouldn't care, because it worked. He once compared himself with Brad Marchand, which could be considered a stretch, but he did have a penchant for getting under people's skin. And despite his relatively small stature, he was never afraid to get in front of the net.
History shows that having someone with that edge, and a bit of an attitude, can elevate a team in moments where raw skill can not. These guys often end up as fan favorites in their cities. And rightfully so.
Anders Sorenson recently compared Samuel Savoie to shaw saying his style was "a bit of a throwback" and that he "loves to mix if up". This should come as welcome news to hawks fans who have been missing that spark since Shaw's retirement.
