Chara Could be Heading to This Surprising Team
45 Year old Zdeno Chara has spent over twenty-five years in the National Hockey League, seventeen of those years have been spent with the Boston Bruins which had a absolute beast of a lineup containing David Krejci, Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, a prime Loui Eriksson, Brad Marchand and even a young evolving David Pastrnak!!
It appears the Bruins are doing everything possible to sign pieces from that eras lineup, including the franchise announcing David Krejci is coming out of retirement for one season to be with the gang for one last ride, and since Patrice Bergeron has also signed a one year deal.. Until he will call it a career and hang up the skates.
A Chara reunion with his old buddies would be ideal, but it seems as if it may be the opposite. As Chara may be signing with a rival of the Boston Bruins...
That being a historic rival with the one and only New York Rangers. The Rangers are in the market for a defenseman, and New York Rangers employee of the Athletic Arthur Staple thinks Chara could be catching the Rangers eyes.
The Rangers were going after a gritty defenseman Nathan Beaulieu who is currently a free agent, but plans quickly changed when Beaulieu signed a PTO (a tryout contract) with the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. Chara, the big 6-foot-9 veteran could make the New York Rangers defensive core a lot more scary, with Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba and Ke'Andre Miller.
The Rangers would be able to pull Chara for a steal of a deal, as they have a cup contending team- something that Chara wants badly.
#NYR likely still in the market for a veteran D-man to join on a tryout. Had interest in Nathan Beaulieu, who agreed to a PTO with the Ducks on Friday. Not many options left: Thomas Hickey, Michael Stone, maybe even Zdeno Chara among those still out there.
